Rena’s Case Study: Stem Cell Procedure helps with osteoarthritis of the knee
History of Joint Problems:
The patient is in her late 50’s and complained of pain in both knees. The pain was severe and constant, even when sitting or lying down. Rena was able to walk only short distances and required the use of a cane. She also had instability of her knees and was unable to do anything recreational. X-rays showed severe osteoarthritis of her left knee (bone on bone) and moderate arthritis of her right knee.
The Stem Cell Procedure solution:
Stem Cell Therapy was performed at the Regenerative Orthopedic Institute in Tampa, Florida using the patient’s own cells. Using a small needle, stems cells are collected by aspirating the bone marrow from the back of the patient’s pelvis, or by collecting fat cells from the abdomen. Local anesthesia was used for minimal discomfort. The aspirate is then placed in a centrifuge, which spins it at a high speed to separate the stem cells from the rest of the bone marrow aspirate. The concentration of stem cells, called bone marrow aspiration concentrate (BMAC), was then injected close to the injured or diseased tissue using ultrasound or x-ray guidance. The Stem Cell Therapy treatment performed by Dr. Grana is very safe and effective. The treatment allows the body to take advantage of the normal healing pathways at a greatly accelerated rate.
Rena’s results:
Rena had an early positive response and started to feel improvement within a couple of weeks. Two months after the initial injection Christine already had seen a significant improvement of function and reduction of pain. At the one year post-procedure mark, Rena had maintained her improvement in pain and function. She has minimal pain on her right knee. Rena experiences pain on her right knee only when walking long distances, and even then the pain intensity is only about half of what it used to be. Rena no longer uses a can and she has no limp. She rarely feels instability of her knees or her knees locking up. Rena has no swelling of her knees and she is very happy with the results she got from stem cell therapy.
